Welcome to the Yellow Room! In our classroom, we have so much fun playing and learning together! You can find us exploring the letters of the alphabet through creative centers, science experiments, books, art, and music. It’s always a great day in the Yellow Room Pre K!!!

Week of 4.13.20
Luke is our Star of the Week this week!!! For his Theme Day on Friday, he has chosen Pajama Day! Please send me pictures so I can share them on Class Dojo!
This week, we will be working on the letter Tt. Below are some activities, crafts, and books that you can enjoy with your child!
Letter Tt
Introduce the letter Tt to your child, and the sound it makes. Brainstorm some Tt words. Write the letter T in the air with your finger and have your child do the same.
T is for Turtle
Read Yertle the Turtle by Dr. Seuss https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=yertle+the+turtle+read+aloud+john+lithgow
Make your own turtle! You can use a paper plate and paint it brown/green (or any color you want!) and cut out a head and four legs to attach to the bottom of the plate. When your paper plate is dry, glue tiny pebbles to your turtle’s shell!
Or you can find a large rock and paint it to look like a turtle shell. Once dry, you can add flat stones or pieces of cardboard/paper for the head and legs! Have fun making your own turtle!

T is for Tulips
You can paint your own tulips using the back of a plastic fork, and then add stems! Or you can use q-tips to paint a whole field of tulips! You are all artists, and I can’t wait to see your masterpieces!

T is for Temperature
In the Yellow Room, we love science experiments, and here is a simple one to try at home!
You will need one glass of cold water, one glass of room temperature water, one glass of hot water, and food coloring. Ask your child to predict what will happen when you drop food coloring into each glass of water – do they think the food coloring will react differently in each glass? Drop 2-3 drops of food coloring in each glass and watch what happens!

If the weather is nice, use sidewalk chalk to TRACE your family members! You can also practice writing your letters with sidewalk chalk!

Miss Fran and I are missing being with your children every day! We hope you’re all doing well! Please continue to check Class Dojo to see videos that Fran and I are sharing with the class! And please continue to send me pictures of your children – I will post them on Class Dojo as well, so all of the friends in the Yellow Room can enjoy seeing each other!
This week, our letter of the week is Ii. Below are some activity ideas, but as always, if you have something different in mind, go for it! The books I’ve suggested below can be found as read-alouds on YouTube.com, along with lots of other great books.
Letter Ii
Introduce the letter Ii to your child, and the sound it makes – short I (like you hear in inch) and long I (like you hear in ice). Brainstorm some Ii words. Write the letter I in the air with your finger and have your child do the same.
I is for Inch
Read Inch by Inch by Leo Lionni or Inchworm and a Half by Elinor J. Pinczes
Using an inch ruler, measure different objects around the house – a book, your hand, your favorite stuffed animal, etc. Then talk about which lengths are longer and shorter, which object measures more/less inches.
I is for Insect
Read It’s a Good Thing There are Insects
Go for a nature walk in search of different insects. Count how many insects you can find. After your walk, draw a picture of one of the insects you found, or use play dough to form different insects!
I is for Igloo
Read Immi’s Gift by Karin Littlewood
Build/make your own igloo – you can use paper to make a craft igloo, or use marshmallows or cotton balls to build your own igloo! I’ve attached samples of both – have fun!
